Stay ahead in your IIB-Physics exam preparation with the latest updates to the DP Physics course, set to launch in August 2023 with the first assessments in May 2025. The new program aims to provide a relevant and effective physics education that reflects societal changes and highlights conceptual learning and skill development.
The updated DP Physics course is organized into five broad themes, each about several topics that facilitate deep learning and understanding. The program emphasizes the importance of connecting factual, procedural, and metacognitive knowledge, promoting a non-linear and ongoing learning process. This approach ensures students are equipped to transfer and apply skills to various contexts creatively and autonomously.
A key focus of the new program is on practical work, with a restored practical scheme of work that encourages hands-on experimentation, simulations, and modeling. The inclusion of the ‘Skills in the study of physics’ section underscores the importance of inquiry skills and techniques, preparing students for real-world applications.
Assessment methods have also been updated, with students sitting two external examinations. Paper 1A will feature multiple-choice questions, and Paper 1B will focus on data analysis. Paper 2 will include both short-response and extended-response questions, integrating content from different curriculum areas. Internal assessments will now allow for collaborative work, highlighting higher-order thinking skills.
The cooperative sciences project remains an integral part of the course, offering students the opportunity to tackle real-world problems through interdisciplinary approaches, enhancing their teamwork, negotiation, and leadership skills.
Stay informed and prepared for your IIB-Physics exam with these essential updates, ensuring a complete and dynamic learning experience.
